Migration

Like many folks, I'm migrating to Dreamwidth from Livejournal. I had to sign that horrible agreement to get access to my on fucking content to import it. Which I have done. Well, after 22 hours I'd imported my posts, and I've been in queue for another 12 waiting to import comments. Once that's done I'll delete the LJ account.

It's nice to have a username without a useless "ha" prepended.

DW seems to use European style dates, so I was initially a bit confused because I thought everyone was posting on June 4.

For me the good news was that I was already here and had a crossposting system set up, so I don't have to import; the bad news is that people were still commenting primarily on the crossposts over on LJ for the last several years rather than here, so all the comments that postdate my import will be lost. Ah well.

(I did import all the LJ comments that existed at the time I did that original import, of course.)

Check with Support, but I believe re-running the importer is supposed to do the right thing and grab the new comments. There's someone on my flist apparently doing this periodically, instead of crossposting.

ETA, sorry I missed your comment above about checking previously re crossposts. Might still be worth a check to see if they changed that functionality, as DW is under pretty active development.

And yeah when I say "years ago" I apparently mean 2010 or 2011 so it is entirely likely things have changed. I'm experimenting now.

Yeah so it turned out you were right! I ran the importer and it grabbed the comments. Thank you! That is very exciting from my perspective. I would have just thought all those comments were lost!
